DUTIES OF PORT LUDLOW NEIGHBORHOOD CAPTAINS:
· Keep fresh batteries on hand for your FRS radio.
· Map your neighborhood so you know all homes in your area of responsibility.
· Make yourself known to the residents in your area of responsibility.
· Distribute resident disaster preparedness questionnaires and when completed, maintain them in a file.
· Distribute Emergency Preparedness literature and red “HELP” and green “OK” signs. Look for Jefferson County Red Emergency house number sign (if missing or not sufficiently visible, provide homeowner with appropriate handout).
· Advise residents of Disaster Preparedness computer on line training aids such as http://www.getemergencyprepared.com/index.html.
· Arrange for Fire Station home inspections if requested by residents.
· If so inclined, volunteer for CERT or CPR and First Aid training classes
WHEN AN INCIDENT OCCURS THAT (1) CAUSES SERIOUS INJURIES AND/OR SUBSTANTIAL PROPERTY DAMAGE TO RESIDENTS OR (2) SHUTS DOWN THE TELEPHONE SYSTEM OR (3) DISRUPTS TRANSPORTATION:
· Secure your home and your family
· Check your house for damage and interruption of utilities
· Assume neighborhood area control
· Report by radio to your Communications Center with your assessment of (1) Medical needs, (2) Damage reports, (3) Transport Needs or (4) Chemical Spills
· Assist a neighboring Captain if needed
· Once the situation is stabilized, pass out Jefferson County Preliminary Damage Report (Form 140-Part1) to those residents that have or may have sustained some property damage.
DURING A POWER OUTAGE LASTING MORE THAN 5 HOURS DURING DAYLIGHT, AREA CAPTAINS SHOULD CHECK THEIR NEIGHBORS FOR ANY NEEDED HELP.
