Ludlow Arts Series: A Musical Mix of Jazz, Classical,
Bluegrass, Flamenco Dance and A Cappella Male Vocals

The Port Ludlow Arts Council is pleased to announce its fifteenth annual season of Performing Arts in Port Ludlow. The seven concerts in the 2006-2007 series will be held at the Bay Club and showcase performers from British Columbia, the United Kingdom, northwest Washington and Calgary, Alberta. The result is an eclectic mix that includes a salute to jazz singers of the swing era, an a cappella male quartet, string swing ensemble, light-hearted classically-trained piano trio, bluegrass band, a Flamenco evening of dance and music—plus a Christmas concert featuring some of Seattle’s top jazz artists.

The 2006-2007 Season

Hot Club Sandwich, String Swing
One of the most vibrant emerging acoustic bands on the West Coast, this ensemble captures the spirit of the hot jazz string bands of early 20th century Paris. Performing from San Francisco to Seattle, New York to Fargo, they’ve appeared at clubs and colleges, festivals and farmers markets, theaters and ballrooms, as well as subways and street corners. They’ll be here Sunday, January 21, at 3:00 p.m. http://www.hotclubsandwich.com/

Hungry Hill Bluegrass Band
These five seasoned musicians from northwestern Canada create a fresh sound while staying true to the roots of bluegrass and old-time music. Appearing Saturday, February 10, 8:00 p.m., they’ll present an intimate evening of original and traditional music featuring lush vocal harmonies coupled with mandolin, fiddle, dobro, banjo, guitar and doghouse bass in a believable and honest sound. http://www.hungryhill.ca/

The Joe Trio
It’s not often you
encounter three classically-trained musicians, all professional symphonic performers, who dare cross the line from classical works to popular, jazz, and rock—certainly not your average piano trio! Making appearances in Canada and throughout the States this threesome will exhibit its versatility, humor, and unpredictability in a diverse concert on Saturday, March 10, at 8:00 p.m. http://www.joetrio.com

Fiona Malena, Flamenco Dancer
The season finale is Saturday,
April 21, at 8:00 p.m., with a fiery flamenco dancer, full of vitality and passion, appearing with her own ensemble. Trained in Spain, she has been inspired and taught by great masters and gypsy artists. Fiona expresses the raw emotional intensity of flamenco that both challenges boundaries yet remains steeped in the tradition of the art. http://www.fionamalena.com/
