PORT LUDLOW VILLAGE COUNCIL

General Meeting Minutes

 October 5, 2006

Bay Club

I.   The meeting was called to order at 9 a.m. Elizabeth Van Zonnefeld, President,        presiding.

II  The roll call discovered a non-quorum with the following members present: Don Clark, Tony Durham, Suzanne Graber (SBCA), Larry Nobles, Allen Panasuk, and Elizabeth Van Zonneveld.  Absent: Bruce Pyles, Bert Loomis, Tom McCay, Terry     O’Brien and Dwayne Wilcox.  Ralph Story arrived at about 9:30 a.m. establishing a quorum at that time.  Also attending: Mike Brasfield, County Sheriff; Arlene     Obtinario, Admin. Fire Chief; Dina Smeland, PLA Acting President; Barbara     Nightingale, Jefferson County Planner.

III Sheriff Brasfield introduced Tim Perry and noted that the recent spat of break-ins in East Jefferson County had resulted in three (3) apprehensions.  More broadly he observed that the most common complaints are: mail theft, paint ball incidents and theft generally, domestic violence and DUI.  Alcohol is the most significant drug issue in Jefferson County.  Methamphetamine production from labs seems to be declining.  However importation has grown sharply.

The Sheriff’s Office is currently staffed such that there are 3 sergeants and 16 others        for Jefferson County.

IV. Community Reports

Administrative Chief Arlene Obtinario informed the assemblage that the week of  October 8-14 is Fire Prevention Week!!!

Diana Smeland made three observations: 1) Olympic Terrace II has a new name – Olympic Estates.  It is still on schedule for breaking ground in November.  2) The new  hearing for the Trendwest issue is November 3rd at 1:00 pm at the Bay Club.  The  response to the county has so far been 17 positive and 16 negative. 3) The Ludlow Bay Village planning scenario was presented to the County.  They are working with the Hearing Examiner to set a date later this year.

Barbara Nightengale noted that the hearing on 10/18 will be held at the county library.

V.         Treasurer’s Report: No report – Treasurer absent.

VI.      Unfinished business
