Electronic Equipment

Note - Most electronics contain hazardous materials such as lead, cadmium and mercury. Electronics in landfills leach toxins and contaminate soil and groundwater; incinerated ones pollute the air. There is no EPA certification process for e-waste recyclers, nor any U.S. ban on e-waste exports. Our recycling may become another nation’s environmental problem; ask for documentation about where and how materials are recycled to ensure they are responsibly handled. Before donating equipment, you must call ahead to ensure it is acceptable. Unusable units divert valuable program dollars to pay recycling fees. Before donation or disposal, it is wise to erase personal data. For evolving disposal information, see also http://dnr.metrokc.gov/swd/takeitback/.
