Port Ludlow Trails/NRC Committee Meeting
4 March 2008
Attendees: Larry Scott, Dick Ullmann, Jack Manning, Soozie Darrow, John Bonderson, Larry Nobles, Barbara Nobles, Stan Gustin, Tom Kingston, Doris Monti, Tom Satterlee, Bobbie Collins and Bill Collins.
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Larry Scott.
The agenda for the day and the minutes of the February 2008 meeting were approved.
Sub-committee Reports:
Finance: CFO Jack Manning reported that the balance of our account as of 2/29/08 is $$8153.30. However, $7604.70 of this is residual from previous years and is in reserve for future projects. The actual balance for 2008 expenditures is, therefore, $548.60. Letters of request for PLA and SBCA $1000 donations will be delivered soon. The PLVC donation will be requested soon. The financial report was unanimously approved.
Maps: No report
Natural Resources: Dick Ullmann reported that the birdhouses on the golf course have been cleaned. Of the 38 birdhouses, 17 had nests. The 7 birdhouses on the Interpretive Trail, the 4 on Rainier Loop and the purple martin houses were all empty and will be relocated. Dick showed those in attendance samples of the nests found.
Dick also reported on the progress of the Knock Out Knoxious Weeds event. He has identified 13 areas for scot’s broom removal.
Stewards: Doris Monti reported that we need some more volunteers to steward or co-steward some of the trails. She will be putting an article in the VOICE to that end.
Trails Status:
Interpretive Trail: The temporary entrance will soon need weeding, tilling and, perhaps, re-seeding. Dean Morgan is making several signs for this area.
Timberton Loop: Pope is logging the upper back area and would prefer that walkers stay on the trail between the parking lot and rock #14 on weekdays so as to avoid personal injury. Tom Kingston informed us that there are at least two geo-caches on this trail, one of which is in danger of being destroyed by the logging
Kehele Trail: The new stewards are doing a great job.
Lower Rainier: The creek drainage has been identified and the PLDD has been asked to dredge part of the area.
Niblick’s Loop: Is actually becoming a loop thanks to several hard workers making good progress.
No Old Business, New Business, or change in Priorities.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
The next meeting will be held at the Beach Club on 01 April at 9:00 a.m.
