Attendance: John Bonderson Bill Collins Bobbie Collins
Stan Gustin Jack Manning Skip Rasmussen
Larry Scott Dick Ullmann Dale Wells
The Trails Committee met July 1 at the Bay Club The agenda was accepted and approved and the minutes from the last meeting were approved and sent out.
Jack Manning presented the Finance report. For year to date we have received $4033 and have had expenditures of $1470. For details see Jack Manning’s report on file.
Maps: Jack Manning met with Minuteman Press. To do everything we want, it will range from $1.31 per map for 100 maps to $.978 per map for 500 maps. It was agreed that we would order 500 maps for this year and that the maps should also show the date of issue as of July 4, 2008
Natural Resources: Dick Ullmann said the native plant garden is coming along nicely thanks to volunteers. The Garden Club has spent a lot of time weeding and their efforts are greatly appreciated. Dick said there is no activity with the Purple Martins at the golf course and he suggests these feeders be moved. Dick and Dean Morgan will look into alternative locations and report back.
Stewards: Looks like we now have a full compliment.
Trails: The Interpretive Trail has been weed whacked. The benches need to be set and we need a sign at the asphalt turn with an arrow to show direction of trail.
Timberton Loop benches need to be re-stained. Adele Govert will do this. The logging operations are done and additional rocks with arrows or signs will be needed. A bench will be set near rock 13 where there is a lovely vista of the Hood Canal.
Around the Bay Trail is in good shape and markers 8 to 20 have been weed whacked.
Ludlow Cove. We need to start maintaining this.
Lower Rainier needs to be widened and chips put in place.
Niblicks is done for now and will be officially opened July 4 at the golf course clubhouse. Bill and Bobbie Collins will sell 100 discounted tickets for half price starting at 8:30am on Fri. These tickets are being subsidized half by PLA and half by the trails committee. Dean Morgan and Stan Gustin will lead a hike of the Niblicks Loop and also make a stop at the Beaver dam.
Old Business: The purchase of additional weed wrenches will be delayed until August.
New Business: Bill Lane has suggested that the Trails Committee purchase a gas weed whacker. He would like to use it on the Timberton. Dick will get back to Bill and find out
more on how it would be used and stored. Jack Manning also has an old weed whacker which he will find out how much it would cost to make it operable
Goals and Priorities:
Top two are the Lower Rainier Loop (chips and making it wider) and a bench on the Timberton near rock 13.
Other priorities –
Improve Around the Bay Trail across from the Kitsap Bank
Beach signage
Oak Bay Road extension route
The issue of Trails Committee owning or renting equipment and usage/access problems.
Dick moved the meeting be adjourned and seconded by Skip
The next Trails Committee will be held August 5 at the Beach Club..
