Port Ludlow Trails & Natural Resources Committee Meeting
2 Sept. 2008
Attendees: John Bonderson, Bobbie Collins, Dan Darrow, Soozie Darrow, Stan Gustin, Jack Manning, Doris Monti, Barbara Nobles, Larry Nobles, Skip Rasmussen, Larry Scott, Dick Ullmann, and Chris Whitehurst.
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Larry Scott.
The agenda for the day and the minutes of 5 August were both approved.
Sub-committee Reports:
Finance: Jack Manning presented the budget and account transactions as of 31 August 2008. The working balance as of that date is $1687.61. The reserve balance for future projects is $7604.70.
Maps: The newly revised maps are ready to go to the printer. The trail descriptions have been edited and new trails added to the map. The committee discussed selling maps to the Inn at Port Hadlock as has been requested. It was voted to sell them a limited number for $1 each, but retain the statement on the map that “Port Ludlow’s Trails are privately owned, operated, and maintained for the residents of Port Ludlow, their guests, and guests of the Resort”.
Natural Resources: Work continues on the native garden at the entrance to the Interpretive Trail. The right side has been weeded and mulched, the weed whacking has been done, and a permit obtained to get more plants from the forest.
Stewards: Doris Monti reported that she has received no response from her pleas for new trail stewards or for weed whacking experts. Anyone having a desire to help please call Doris at 437-0716. It was decided that dog waste bags should be made available for the Niblicks Loop, possibly by the rock sign at the water tower. Adele Govert will be contacted since she has procured these for the Timberton Loop.
Trail Status:
Interpretive Loop: Bobbie Collins reported that the two new benches are great and she has a spot for two more! The compass rose “sculpture” at the Grant Sharpe quiet area has been vandalized and a replacement should be considered.
Timberton Loop: new rocks with arrows need to be placed in the area of the recent logging. Two members reported having investigated the side road near the bench at #13 as a possible addition to the trail. Neither of them regarded it as worthwhile.
Around the Bay Trail: The retention pond area has been mown and the blackberry stringers cut back.
Bay Club Gazebo: Chips have been requested.
Niblicks Loop: needs clipping.
Old Business:
· Two medium size weed wrenches will be ordered for our tool inventory for anyone to use.
· Dick Ullmann contacted the Artist’s Guild to request someone to decorate the kiosk seasonally. No response has been received. He will follow up. Phyllis Hansen has been doing this for several years but would like to be relieved.
New Business: There was no new business
Goals and Priorities
· Lower Rainier chipping and water drainage
· Re-route ABT from road to ridge across from Kitsap Bank
The next meeting will be held at the Beach Club at 9:00 a.m. 7 October 2008.
