Port Ludlow Trails/Natural Resources Meeting Minutes
02 October 2007
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Larry Scott.
The agenda and minutes of the last meeting were approved.
Sub Committee Reports:
Finance: CFO Jack Manning was not in attendance. However, it was determined that we have approximately $8000 total in our two accounts. A portion of the money will be allocated to a reserve fund for major improvements/contingencies – repair of the asphalt portions of the trails being the most prominent major improvement on the list.
There was no report on the trail maps.
Natural Resources: Dick Ullmann, chairman of NRC, had several reports.
1. Some of the bird houses on the Interpretive Trail have been moved as suggested to the edge of the forest.
2. About $40 has been received from selling the Natural Resources of Port Ludlow brochures at the Friday Market this summer.
3. Patty Patterson has created two comprehensive lists of information, which are available to anyone interested, regarding native plants, where to plant them, etc. and an inventory of what has been planted at the entrance to the Interpretive Trail. Dick and Patty are planning to relocate some existing plants and add a few more plants this fall. A motion was passed to spend no more than $200 on this project.
4. It was noted that the infamous Scot’s Broom is running rampant again in certain areas of the community. It was decided that one of the fun/work days could be devoted to the removal of some – specifically, those near the village center.
Stewards: Doris Monti, chief steward, reported that Timberton Loop appears to have several new culverts in place recently. Mowing does not seem necessary at this time. Signage mentioned at the last meeting still needs to be put in place.
Trails Status:
Interpretive Trail: The dedication of the Grant Sharpe Memorial was attended by approximately 20 people. Phyllis Hansen donated some inspiring rocks to edge the entrance path. Mike Porter has agreed to maintain the cedar bench and chairs. The ad hoc committee has now been officially disbanded as the project is finished.
Timberton Spur: A cart and vehicle for pulling it up the hill have been obtained so that the chipping can be finished. This will be one of the next fun/work day events.
Ludlow Cove: The Scot’s Broom in this location needs to be addressed. It was, however, decided that we will need to coordinate with PLA and planned construction in the area.
Old Business:
Preparations for the Recognition and Appreciation party scheduled for Oct. 5 were discussed. The motion to allow expenditure of ~$250 was passed.
New Business:
The committee has been asked to provide an informative display for the lobby of the Bay Club at the Dine and Discover event on 3 December. Soozie Darrow and Dick Ullmann agreed to staff the table.
Dean Morgan is creating a new sign for the street side of the Trails/NRC kiosk.
Setting Goals & Priorities:
Signage for trails
Lower Rainier water drainage
Niblick’s marsh crossing
The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 06 Nov. at 9:00 a.m. at the Bay Club.
